Japanese version of I AM CATHERINE JANE published ~ Fight for justice by a rape victim

A party was held on May 29 in Tokyo to mark the publication of the Japanese version of “I AM CATHERINE JANE.” The author, Catherine Jane Fisher, recounts the story of being drugged and raped by a US Navy sailor in her book.  She was raped in 2002 when she was waiting for her boyfriend in a restaurant in Yokosuka base. She turned to the Yokosuka police in Kanagawa Prefecture for help, but the investigation of the case was hampered and evaded by the Japan-US Status of Forces Agreement. The rapist returned to the United States without being indicted. Instead of dropping the case, she went all the way to the U.S. to find him, made him admit the crime and won a victory in the U.S. Court in 2003. It took her 12 years to get justice, and a year after that, the Japanese version was published by a Japanese publisher Kodansha. (By Jonny H)
