The workers of
National Union of General Workers, Tokyo Tobu, at Okubo Glass Co. in Tokyo went
on the first strike in 18 years on May Day. The long dispute at the company
that lasted 21 years and nine months began with discrimination and abuse against
mentally disabled workers, who were forced to work 12- to 13-hour days. In the
struggles, they won the three-shift days, improved working conditions and
reached a favorable settlement with the company. However, the company
introduced 12-hour shifts through a subcontractor.
After the May Day

「8時間労働制を守れ！」～大久保製壜支部がメーデーストライキ
5 月1日メーデー、全国一般東京東部労組大久保製壜支部は、18年ぶりの24時間ストライキに立ち上がりました。ご存じの通り、21年9ヵ月間の大久保製壜 闘争のきっかけの一つに、多くの障害者を差別虐待し、12時間、13時間の長時間などの過酷労働による酷使がありました。闘いの中で4直3交替などの労働 条件の改善も実現し、会社もようやく反省して全面和解協定が結ばれましたが、ここにきて、検査課職場に入れた請負会社を通して12時間シフト制の2組交替 制を導入してきたのです。日比谷メーデーの集会とデモに続き、13時頃から大久保製壜所前には東部労組各支部や地域の多くの仲間たちがぞくぞくと集まりま した。（長崎広）
